Notes
Painted in Provincetown, MA. To Tibi, June 20, 1963: "A man came to see me this am bringing a painting 16 x 16" which he picked up in a shop `up toward Albany.' Mine from 1917, wharves, dory, schooner, a `cellist & a fiddler (tuning up) &, in the foreground Mayme Noones, hands clasped before her & behind her the dark blue hbr [harbor] & white-caps near shore." Once in Provincetown when ED had to go out, but was expecting Tibi to meet him at his studio, he left a message on the reverse of this picture which was on his easel, "Tibi Wait." Seeing this inscription the Whitney curator assumed it to be the picture's title and so listed it in the catalogue of the Edwin Dickinson retrospective. Liking the title, ED adopted it.
