Painted in Provincetown, MA. Sitter a niece of Mrs. Charles W. Hawthorne (Marion Campbell). ED note: "Oil on a drawing board. Chessboard on reverse. Never finished. A good start from an extraordinarily beautiful girl, aged 16." C.C. was born in 1900 and "1926" is an error made after the piece was cut down by ED in 1966, from 31x23."
