Painted in Skowhegan, ME, June 30, July 1, 2, 9, 12, 16, 21 (journal), at The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. The chair originally belonged to Henry Varnum Poor and was in sculptor Sidney Simon's studio. It disappeared from Skowhegan after 1958 and was owned by Mr. & Mrs. Goldstone with "Chair, Skowhegan I, 1956." It was sold with that painting in 1997.
