Painted in New York, NY, March 23, Charles St. studio (journal). Eugene Bernald asked ED for a "portrait" to be done in one sitting. E. Dickinson made a "start" after which Bernald rented the piece for three years for $75.00 for exhibition in the Far East. (journal March 23, 1957). "A letter E. Bernald ref. SE asia exhib. & photograph (neg.) of my 15 x 12 of 'him.'" (journal January 27, 1958). Journal November 30, 1962 "About 15" x 12" pochad [sic], color spots from him in a chair and the place where he'd sit while he was resting. He claimed to like it & took it away with him." The piece has not been seen again. It was neither sold nor given away by ED.
