Painted in Montignac, France, July 6, "painted a 15/12 out our balcony window" 7, 8, "fini", (journal),
(letter to FD July 6), in the Dordogne region where Ed and HDB had gone to visit the Grotte de Lascaux.
ED's letter to sister, 9 July 1952: "...did a piece sitting in the open french windows giving onto a stone
balcony; pretty fair in point of looking like the subject, a house, very close above me growing right out of a
cliff."
