Painted in New York, NY, February 23 "set up two mirrors for NAD self bildnis [portrait] 20/23", 28 "began self portrait in profile", March 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 16, 21, 26, 27, 29, May 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 it to be shown in Brooklyn in fall, 19 "finished self portrai in profile . . .good luck attended the 3rd exposure of this little piece." "pat saw my self portrait at the studio eve.", 21 "to studio to have 20/30 photographed." "diploma" piece after ED's election as an Associate of the National Academy of Design. The Academy awarded it the First Prize for Portraiture in the 124th Annual Autumn Exhibition, the Evelyn Clair Lockman Prize. On a bank deposit slip for the prize check, ED wrote: "$1200. = Prize for the self portrait, profile, L. ear, & white coat."
