Notes
Painted in Wellfleet, MA, August 9, at east junction of Blackfish Creek and south tidal marsh of Indian Neck, "(nose & hat)", (journal). ED nicknamed this piece, "Self Portrait with Straw Hat," because the dark area from the top left to mid-right is his hat and the shadow of his nose is the shape on the left side with the view of the marsh in between. To AWS, March 14, 1944, this piece "was painted with the L eye closed."
