Painted in Ollioules, France, north of Sanary, May 18 (journal) of Chateau de Madelon de Vintimille. ED made his first trip to Ollioules January 7, "I to Ollioules & 5 mile walk up gorges. Ruined chateau [sic]. Marvelous!" (journal). Walked there and took family pictures, May 17 & 18 (journal).
