Notes: Painted in Sheldrake, NY, possibly June 23, 25, 29, July 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 (journal), on the cottage lawn near the elm he called "The Bach Tree."
Painting shows a story made up by ED and R. Parmenter, i.e."Abandonment of the Brigantines 'Angie P. Fuller' and 'Spreading Dawn' of Stonington, Connecticut in the ice on September 12, 1841 in Lat. 73 .07'S., Long. 21 . 10'W. Interest attaches to this paintiing as containing the first representation of the famous Adele Penguin, (Pygoscelis Adeliae)." ED note; "Ships in winter quarters with a hut, men ice cliffs & penguins . . . "
