Notes: Painted in Provincetown, MA. To EHS, July 22 , he at work on it, has had 3 or 4 sittings. To EHS, August 22, his name on her landscape is "old sure-shot" and he working carefully. To EHS. September 19, he is "pecking" at her landscape and has good expectations for it. To EHS, 28 Dec. "The green grass in yr landscape will turn to snow likely but I shall certainly improve it as I go along." To EHS, May 18 1924, "Ashamed of my delay on yr landscape but proper weather for it now and finish before long." To EHS, September 8, "I will send your landscape this week." To EHS, February 24, 1924, "P.S. Soon a little varnish finish your landscape - do you believe this canvas is a myth? Would not blame you but various hindrances have been thick . . . It is a reality & 2/3 completed." To EHS , Sept. 1924: "Your landscape leaves tomorrow . . . If you dont [sic] like it say so and will give you anything you want instead." To EHS, November 7, "Did the landscape arrive ok?"

Old barn divided into two studios, one on left rented by Edwin Dickinson, the one on right by Charles W. Hawthorne.
