Notes
Drawn in Wellfleet, MA, February 25, 26 (journal), from a photograph. In 1937 ED visited Les Baux and the ancient abbey of Montmajour, December 24 (journal), near Arles with the proprietor of the Dickinson's hotel in Arles. The drawing is a characteristic example of ED's "reminiscing" on a place which moved him. "Fontveille" is the nearby town where the Dickinsons first considered settling for the winter, but later decided on warmer Sanary. The meaning of inscription "Lyon" is unknown.
