ED to HDB, January 29, 1965: ". . . of `The Rival Beauties' a quite big one with a horse lying half under a gd. [grand] piano with a `cellist by it, striking C." May 24, 1953, "In cleaning 'The rival Beauties' . . . I swas surprised at its weight - several impasto pieces under it I suppose - entirely forgotten." (journal).
